About the Book and Author

Where did this book idea come from?

Anyone who has ever spent any significant time traveling for work knows that business travel isn’t exactly a glamorous life. You are away from your family and sometimes miss the “little things” that are really the “big things”. Several years back when my son, Sammy, was in early elementary school, I decided that I would jot down a few notes that I wanted to talk about when I got home from my trip. Generally these were ideas related to something that I had missed while being gone, but some were bigger life lessons. Inevitably by the time I got home the teaching moment was gone, but at least I had my thoughts written down. Over time that list grew, and I wondered how to get Sammy all of this information in a way he would appreciate. It occurred to me that some type of book would be something he could keep with him through his life, and hopefully be a good memory!

In December of 2019 I was ready to find an online publishing outlet to make the book. As I learned about what that would entail, I also realized that getting a copyright would be kind of fun! I love to learn, and adding this element would make it more special. That copyright was approved in early 2020, and we were on to publishing! I wanted to really make this something that Sammy could feel a part of as well, and having access to his school artwork in digital format introduced the possibility of making him the Illustrator. When it was all finished the result was exactly what I was looking for, and we decided to publish the book for everyone to enjoy. Sammy and I both hope it brings a smile to your face, and inspires you to try things that are out of your comfort zone!

About Patrick Dussinger

Patrick Dussinger is the type of person who loves to learn and discover new things. “I’ve always really identified with the concept that life experiences are so much more fulfilling than the pursuit of material things. That philosophy has helped shape a good portion of my adult life.” Some of Patrick’s adventures include making the Alcatraz swim, completing nearly 40 half marathons and 5 full marathons, and even swimming across Tampa Bay. Having built multiple pieces of furniture for his own home, he also enjoys wood working and creating things from scratch. “The main thing that drives me is learning about and accomplishing new things. That can also be problematic though, as I tend to take on way too many new hobbies!”

Given that background, it was no surprise that the concept of writing a book was too much to pass up. “Publishing has become so easy now, and I’m not sure everyone realizes that. You don’t have to be the next great American author to have a book published in 2020.”

Patrick calls Jacksonville, Florida home, where he lives with his wife, Elizabeth, and their son Sammy. “Elizabeth is the best wife I could ever imagine – she is always very supportive of my new adventures, but also keeps me focused and grounded if my inquisitive nature takes me too far!”
